Boca Argentinian Grill - Darlinghurst

Sorry Jason, I had to share this one
- I hardly eat out anymore and being able to review a place that you haven't covered is an exciting prospect!
Last Friday, as a celebration to my sister's last day at work, we dined at Boca Argentinian Grill for something different.
Why Argentinian? Well, both my sister and I, and our men, have been to Argentina, so that's something in common there - and also I knew I was craving meat, and Argentinians, like us, love a good BBQed meat.
You know when you visit an ethnic restaurant and get disappointed with the stereotypical cuisines they usually serve? Most German restaurants I visit in Sydney are like that.... well, Boca is a bit of a mix for me... I loved it, yet there were still something that wasn't living up to the hype.
We had one of those packages that came with 3 courses and 2 glasses of wine each. To eat we had grilled meat plate with lamb and beef steaks tenderly grilled and pink to the right shade, sausages, together with grilled eggplants and sweet potatoes topped with this spicy sauce. Fries with herbs, and mixed empanadas. That was really yummy. For dessert, we were served a trio plate of creme brulee, some bread pudding thingy and sugar coated pumpkin.
SMH review had an interesting paragraph, describing their experience:
"But put those teeth to work and you'll find good beefy flavour. The ribs deliver the most fun by the metre, but the rump is done to death and the matambre is a challenge. The watercress salad is salty and over-dressed, and a dessert of flan (creme caramel, $13) is firm, cold and characterless, complete with old-school garnish of spun sugar and fanned strawberry."
I wouldn't put it so much as a disappointing experience, our meats were fine, so perhaps they just had a bad day with the SMH reviewer. The creme brulee isn't like the ones you get from French patisseries, but they are still nice, I do actually prefer them this way because they are not as sickening sweet. The pumpkin is a different experience, and having being in Argentina I sort of knew the taste, but I can understand it can be an acquired taste. The bread pudding thingy was a little too average.
Anyways, I liked it because we got the deal with one of those deal sites (jumponit.com.au) but if you were just going without a voucher, this meal could cost you around $160 (total for 2), which I am not sure if it's really worth it... but if you do come across a deal again for this place, I do suggest you try, the folks there are really friendly, I got to practice my spanish a bit with them which was a thrill
