There was a time I thought City Extra was special. The way it is, the quirky newspaper menus, the semi-retro decor and the big serving of burger and fries.
Unfortunately it's special no more. City Extra is no longer anything extra. Sure, they still have the special newspaper menus and the quirky loud decor of black and red bricks, but that's all. The food is average, service is second to average and not to mention the expensive price tag that comes with these average items.
The restaurant's only fortunate venture is it's water front and convenient location at the Circular Quay which attracts the tourists already in the area. Also, being 24 hours means they've got the businesses of the night owls as well.
Personally I'd prefer a burger from the local chicken joint rather than City Extra, however if I do find myself wandering around the city one day at wee hours of the morning, it may be my last resort.
