SOBAN Chatswood: A Review

OMG this place was heavenly - mouth watering heavenly!!
SOBAN is a Korean Cuisine Restaurant that have been operating in Chatswood Westfield for a bit over a year now. It is on level 6 next to Kam Fook and adjacent to the Hoyts Box Office and it is a little hidden gem.
I talked a mate out of GPK for the 78th time so we could try something new and a place I have been wanting to visit for ages. I would normally order the take away while working in the upstairs Hoyts but I hardly work there anymore and the take away is above $15- which is way more than I want to spend for a work dinner or lunch.
The restaurant is sparse with green walls studded with lights or studs every few feet and there is no art in the place - it is just a nice dark restaurant with wood floors, walls and even the entry facade is odd pieces of wood latticed that make a nice wall of interest. The service is sensational and the staff are there before you need to ask.
On this night they had a two course special on for $28- a head plus I think $8- for a bottle of wine's corkage - SOLD. As it was an apology dinner I didn't have to pay so YAY!!!! That
We both ordered the same thing from the meals we could choose from and went for the entree of Baby Asparagus wrapped in sliced pork belly grilled and served with a salad and dressed in gochujang sauce. OMG - it was so nice - I ate the salad first and found that while it was superbly presented and tasting divine I think it was a tiny bit heavy handed with the gochujang sauce. My partner "in-eating" wanted more of the sauce. It was a very sweet sauce but the meal overall is 4 stars out of 5.
For main's we went the Soban Bulgogi - grilled premium marinated beef served with grilled vegetales, potato wedges, a small corn on the cob and some delectable sauce. Now this marinated beef is close or if not the best beef i have eaten - it was more butter with meat flavour - it literally melted in your mouth and the BBQ flavouring of the meat had me experiencing a foodgasm. Definite 5 out of 5 dish!
Now their selection is quite large with amazing salads and entrees, their mains are mostly sold as A-La-Carte. Next time I want to have their meal sets - they are all Bibimbaps and I gather are the Korean version of Bento Boxes but these look insanely delicious and HUGE. The meals range from about $15 each to up to $45- each and they also have a great selection of desserts. It is BYO and licensed - it is win win. Plan a night out at the movies in Chatswood and head to this place for dinner beforehand - perfecto!
Soban has three restaurants and I thoroughly recommend them. They have the Korean Cuisine restaurant we went to at Chatswood Westfield and also have a grill on the lower Fresh Food Level of the same Chatswood Westfield and then another one at Hornsby Westfield.
They are open for lunch and dinner, I recommend you make a booking - for more information visit their site HERE
